Saber is a fictional character from the Fate series, specifically having a main role in Prototype. Before Prototype became a proper series, he was actually the Archetype of the current Fate/Stay Night Saber before the creators thought to switch the gender.

 

Saber’s true identity is that of the legendary Arthur Pendragon, son of Uther Pendragon and Igraine, who was the mother of Elaine, Morgause, and Morgan le Fay causing Arthur to be their younger half-brother. Though despite that, the King of Knights was raised by Sir Hector instead due to a deal that Merlin, his future mentor and adviser, had with his father prior to his birth.

 

Time has passed and Arthur was now a full-fledged adult, the king has passed away. Uther, while on his deathbed, proclaimed that the next King would be the one who can pull the sword, Caliburn, out of the stone guarded by ten knights. 

 

While Arthur was at home, he noticed that his foster brother, Kay, left his sword and decided to deliver it to him and passed by the stone without the ten knights guarding it. Believing that it was still dangerous for his brother, Kay, to go with only just one sword, Arthur just pulled the sword out and went on his way to his father’s side.

 

Upon discovering that Arthur has pulled the sword out of the stone, he was declared as the new King and was slowly revealed his heritage.

 

Decades have passed and Arthur has protected Britain with no loss, until the fateful day where he was fatally wounded by his son, Mordred. Having lost his sheath, Avalon, Arthur and Bedivere were one of the few survivors of the Battle of Camlann.

 

Arthur told Bedivere to return Excalibur back to the Lady of the Lake, though his right-hand man did not do such after three tries, King Arthur was rightfully placed to a peaceful slumber.

 

And now we go to the main story of Prototype. Eight years prior to the main plot, Saber was summoned as the Servant of Sayjou Manaka to bring her victory and to use the Grail to discover the Root as that was what Manaka’s father’s goal was.

 

However despite Saber being the victory and wanting his wish to be granted, he realized that the Grail was corrupted and that his Master has been sacrificing innocent lives to the Grail. 

 

Manaka was ready to sacrifice her younger sister, already making do to the father and before the insane Master could do anything, Saber has already stabbed and declared her as insane. Saving Ayaka, who would later become his new Master eight years later. Though it seems that Arthur was already aware of Manaka’s nature but followed her orders in order to grant his wish.

 

Though it was unknown what happened to Saber, it was presumed that he disappeared after he destroyed the Grail and threw away Manaka’s corpse.

 

Eight years later, Saber was once again summoned by the younger sister of his former Master, saving her from the assassination by Lancer and since then has been by her side protecting her as well as advising her, telling her to go from Black Magic to Formal Craft as it was her better forte.

 

Personality wise, Saber is the type of person that gives off the vibe of a hero one would feel good about. Unlike his female counterpart, Saber has a much looser personality and is seen to be much more casual and playful, especially with Ayaka. However, he still retains his serious nature when in front of the enemy.

 

Like his female counterpart, Arthur is very good at eating but he is also good at cooking. Finding it as an enjoyable hobby in modern times. However, he seems to misunderstand something during his time as a Servant under Manaka. Arthur seems to believe that Japanese people enjoy big meals as his former Master would always serve him large sets for breakfasts. Completely unaware that Arthur is just a big eater.

 

Being a knight and first more a king, Saber has a strong sense of justice as well as a sense of a common matured man. He also appears to be an ideal prince though it counteracts with his teasing nature. But all in all, Saber has a strong sense of honor, loyalty, and justice.

 

He is everything a knight should be.
